Bouncy Balls and Website Launches
Spent this weekend up at Whistler, trying to perfect my snowboarding abilities. Unfortunately the weather gods didn't see it my way and we were completely socked in all day Saturday. No boarding for us this weekend, although we did take solace in the fact that the beers were really cold. Mmmm.
Anyway, one of my buddies works for EA, and in our non-boarding funk we got to talking about, of all things, advertising. Go figure. He mentioned a new ad by Sony Bravia, where they dropped over 100,000 bouncy balls down the streets of San Fransisco and filmed the whole thing. I didn't know what he was talking about, so stopped in at YouTube today to check it out. Holy crap. He was right.
I must have watched this video about 3 or 4 times as the magnitude of this whole scenario set in with me. I just can't imagine the logistics behind something like this, and the sheer risk in trying to get the whole thing done in a single take. Unreal.
They also were kind enough to let us in on a behind-the-scenes peek at what went on. Judging by the dialogue on the set, I'd say they were pretty nervous about making this thing work.
I'm especially fond of the style of this spot. Very unassuming and not very flashy, but powerful in its own right.
On another note: it's been a long time coming, but now that I've put a few other things to bed and gotten a few 'housekeeping' items out of the way, the new Ashton Media website is nearly ready for launch. I can't give a firm date on the official unveiling, but everyone here will be the first to know once it's ready to go.
I know I probably should have had the site up and running some time ago, but it was just one of things that kept getting put on the backburner. Shame on me.
In any case, keep checking back for the official release as I turn the web on its side forever.

Cool vid. How did they get permission to pull that off? Amazing.

Great question. Not sure what the planning would be to get clearance for this, but I can imagine there were a number of hoops to jump through in order to get it done.
